On Monday, August 24, 2026, we opened Tokyo International School Minamiazabu Kindergarten, an early childhood education center for children aged 2 to 5.

■ Key Features of Tokyo International School Minamiazabu Kindergarten

1. A Multinational, Fully English-Speaking Environment Where Children from Diverse Backgrounds Come Together

Taking advantage of its location in Minamiazabu, an area home to many embassies, the kindergarten provides a highly diverse campus where children with roots in countries across Europe, North America, Asia, the Middle East, and beyond come together.

English is used throughout the kindergarten—not only for everyday communication, but also for correspondence with parents and guardians and for all documentation—creating an open and welcoming environment where international families can feel at ease.

By being naturally exposed from an early age to different cultures and a wide range of values, children develop a genuine global mindset.

2. An International Academic Calendar Starting in August, Enabling a Smooth Transition to International Schools

Rather than following the standard Japanese school year that begins in April, the kindergarten adopts an internationally aligned academic calendar beginning in August.

This makes enrollment smoother for children returning to Japan from overseas and for international families, while also facilitating an easier transition to international schools in Japan and abroad after graduation.

In addition, through our partnership with our affiliated organization, Tokyo International School, graduates are offered access to a priority admissions process, as well as opportunities to attend school information sessions and campus tours.

3. Theme-Based Inquiry Learning in English, Along with Extracurricular Programs That Foster Both an International Perspective and Appreciation for Japanese Culture

The core program provides theme-based inquiry learning in English, encouraging children to explore familiar phenomena and topics in greater depth.

In addition, extracurricular programs are offered after the regular program from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., including violin, dance, gymnastics, and kendo, through which children can learn about Japanese culture, etiquette, and values.

In particular, gymnastics and kendo are conducted in Japanese, giving children natural opportunities to experience the Japanese language and culture as part of their everyday kindergarten life.

While providing a fully English-speaking environment, the kindergarten also nurtures children’s sense of identity and respect for Japanese culture.

Our Original English Learning Materials for Ages 3–12, “Tap & Talk Reading,” Now Available for General Sale!

    ■ About the Tap & Talk Series Since its founding in 1985, TISG has operated numerous international preschools and after-school programs across Japan for more than 40 years. The Tap & Talk Series is a set of English learning materials developed in-house by TISG for children ages 3 to 12. In 2022, TISG began offering “Tap & Talk Phonics,” a beginner-level textbook specializing in phonics (*1) learning. Designed to help children deepen their understanding of letters while learning the relationship between English sounds and letters, the material is widely used to develop children’s ability to read. *1 Phonics refers to the rules connecting English letters and sounds. Each of the 26 letters of the alphabet has both a name and a sound, and children learn to combine these sounds to read words. It is a common learning method used by children in English-speaking countries. ■ Overview of “Tap & Talk Reading” One of the most effective approaches to English reading and writing is reading aloud and extensive reading through stories. “Tap & Talk Reading” is a comprehensive English learning program for beginners, centered on 48 stories aligned with the Lexile Framework (*2), through which children can gradually learn reading comprehension, phonics, grammar, and more. At TISG, the materials are used in the LTE Course, which students attend once a week, both as classroom materials and as home-learning materials. The program is also available for general sale and is designed so that children who are not enrolled at TISG can use it for self-study. The materials consist of four English levels ranging from 100 to 200 Lexile and three types of textbooks. Through the experience of reading stories, children build vocabulary and reading comprehension while comprehensively developing the foundations of English, with the goal of acquiring basic skills, including reading and writing, equivalent to the Eiken Grade 3 level. *2 An indicator of English “reading ability” and “text difficulty.” ① Readers Children learn basic vocabulary while enjoying interactive stories. These materials are designed to steadily and comfortably develop the reading comprehension and vocabulary skills needed for long-term learning. ② Workbooks Using words and sentences from the stories, children learn phonics, handwriting practice, reading comprehension, grammar, and more. Through pencil-based exercises, the workbooks aim to help children firmly retain what they have learned through hands-on learning. ③ Extension Books These supplementary texts are designed to further enhance learning outcomes. Children revisit the same skills covered in the workbooks through additional practice exercises. ■ Purchase Here Gridmark STOREYou can purchase the materials by selecting “オトデルシリーズ” from CATEGORY in the site menu.
