Engaging Curiosity

At TIS Kindergarten, we believe that curiosity is the foundation of meaningful learning. Our kindergarten program is designed to engage children’s natural sense of wonder through hands on activities, joyful discovery, and purposeful play. Every part of the day is built to spark questions, encourage exploration, and help students grow into confident, motivated learners.

From storytelling and music to creative projects, games, and movement, our classrooms are full of opportunities for children to explore, experiment, and express themselves. While each activity is rooted in specific developmental goals, it’s the process of discovery that keeps students engaged.

Whether they’re drawing, building, or solving a puzzle, students are encouraged to think independently, ask questions, and interact with the world around them in meaningful ways. Our teachers carefully prepare each activity to ensure it’s developmentally appropriate, enjoyable, and just the right level of challenge so curiosity stays at the center of every learning experience.

Center Time is a favorite part of the day where students work independently or in small groups at rotating activity stations. These centers might focus on building patterns with blocks, practicing math with dice, improving fine motor skills with chopsticks, or even learning life skills like packing a backpack.

This part of the day gives children choice and control, helping them develop independence, patience, and problem-solving skills. The variety keeps them engaged, while the structure allows for deeper exploration and mastery of new concepts over time.

Our Physical Education program goes beyond exercise and is an opportunity for children to explore movement, build confidence, and enjoy being active. Whether running, hopping, throwing, or stretching, students are constantly discovering what their bodies can do and how to move with purpose and coordination.

PE also promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and emotional awareness. Lessons are structured to develop essential motor skills through playful, engaging activities that encourage curiosity about physical abilities and the world around them. Whenever possible, PE is held outdoors, giving students the added benefit of fresh air and space to explore more freely.

An Immersive Environment

At TIS kindergarten, we use an immersion-based approach to help students build confidence and fluency in English. By surrounding children with rich, natural language, we create an environment where English learning happens, organically through play, interaction, and daily routine routines.

Why immersion works:

  • Faster Language Development

Constant exposure helps young learners acquire vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation more naturally which leads to quicker progress and stronger fluency over time.

  • Early Bilingual Advantage

Learning a second language in early childhood supports long-term language proficiency and strengthens overall cognitive skills, such as problem-solving and memory.

  • Cultural Understanding

Children explore global traditions through fun, seasonal events like Tanabata, Halloween, and Christmas, gaining an appreciation for diversity and different ways of life.

  • Social Growth

Immersion promotes collaboration and communication. Students build friendships, develop empathy, and learn to express themselves confidently in English and beyond.

Theme-Based Learning

Theme-based learning is at the heart of our kindergarten curriculum. While our activities, which include singing songs, role-playing, crafting, reading stories, playing games, and more, may look like pure fun, they’re all part of a carefully structured approach designed to build real-life skills.

Each term, students explore unique Themes (like “My Family” or “My Profile”) that are broken down into focused Topics, each tied to clear developmental goals. Across one to four weeks, children engage in a variety of hands-on experiences that build toward a specific Learning Outcome, such as identifying classroom routines or naming family members.

Our Toddler program is designed for toddlers to learn through sensory-rich, hands-on experiences in a safe, supportive, and English-immersed environment. Using age-appropriate activities that engage touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste, ETE encourages natural curiosity and discovery. English is used as a medium for learning, with teachers, introducing language organically through play, encouragement, and daily routines. Real-life materials and multimedia tools enhance each child’s sensory experience, making learning both exciting and meaningful. In every session, children are supported in building, foundational, social, emotional, and physical skills, like cooperation, self-confidence, motor development, and communication. At TIS kindergarten, we believe toddlers learn best by exploring the world around them. Toddler program gives them the space, language, and encouragement to do just that.

Our three to four -year-old course is an emergent English course for students with little or no exposure to English.Through play and hands-on activities, students learn a variety of different topics through English. Emphasis is based on building confidence in communication as well as listening. At this age, we begin to introduce pre-writing and pre-reading. Each unit lasts one month, and over the course of the year, we cover a wide variety of themes relating to Math, Science, Personal and Social Education, Art, and Social studies.

In their final year, students take the lead. They become responsible for taking leadership roles, managing their time, and working more independently. 21st century skills come more clearly into focus, and the students begin to shift from speaking and listenning to creative story-telling and writing. This is where confidence, curiosity, and independence truly come together.

Our teachers thoughtfully sequence each lesson from early exposure to new ideas, through guided practice, to meaningful creative expression. Behind the scenes, we rigorously test each activity in advance, ensuring it’s developmentally appropriate and engaging for every learner.

Theme-based learning offers students a joyful, well-rounded foundation where they learn through doing, connect ideas across different contexts, and build skills they’ll use for life.

A Day At TIS Kindergarten

  • TISG teacher welcoming their students by giving them a hug

    Arrival

Students are greeted by staff and teachers as they arrive for a day of learning, growth, and play.

  • Morning Assembly

We kick off each day with energy and connection by singing songs, celebrating special moments, and building a sense of community that sets a positive tone for everything to come.

  • Circle Time

Circle Time brings students together to share, connect, and grow while fostering empathy, communication, and group support in a warm, engaging setting.

  • TISG students having fun during their story time class with their teacher

    Story Time/Library Time

As part of our efforts to instill a love for learning, we add a dedicated Story Time and Library Time where we read a story from the school library to our students, then follow up with an opportunity to select a storybook from the same school collection to take home for a set period of time.

  • Show and Tell

Show and Tell is a chance for students to shine as they share something special from home, build confidence, and engage in peer-lead conversation and curiosity.

  • PE / Focus Blocks 1 & 2

Students enjoy fun, structured movement that builds healthy habits, physical, confidence, and social skills through active play.

  • TISG students having lunch during their lunchtime

    Lunch Time

After a full morning of activities, students are hungry. Lunchtime is an opportunity for students to eat, but it’s also a break from the more structured segments of the day. It’s a time for students to socialize with friends and reset for afternoon learning content.

  • Indoor Active Time

Students have a chance to burn off some of their lunchtime energy with indoor active play before transitioning to the afternoon focus block.

  • Focus Block 3

Our daily Focus Blocks give students the chance to dive into hands-on learning through creative, physical, and academic activities designed to inspire curiosity and meet developmental goals.

  • Afternoon Circle Time

We end the day together, by reflecting, singing, and celebrating what we’ve learned – sending students home, feeling proud, calm, and connected.

  • Home Time / Clubs / Extended Care

There are options for students to go home, attend afternoon clubs, or stay for extended care, depending on the needs of each family.
